A classic renaissance man, Sherwood Akuna creates extraordinarily thought provoking art.   His cutting edge style has a New Age Rastafarian spin not found in the mainstream.

Currently, Akuna is the president of the Computer Underground Railroad, that provides computer education, book publishing and ergonomics.  He is also moving the railroad into the field of fashion with rasta hats and wearable art.

Born in L.A., CA in 1953, his Hawaiian father, Russell and African American mother, Edith, enabled his childhood artistry to be outstanding.

As a teenager Akuna was flying planes from Compton Airport, an expert marksman, an artist and a bass musician

As a conscientious objector he turned down a scholarship to the Air Force Academy.  As a result of performing in 1974 in Thule, Greenland on a NATO - USO Hardship Tour during the Vietnam War, he avoided possible jail time and received a citation from the Department of Defense and a deferment as a Conscious Objector.

His early work at Northrop in graphics further demonstrated his artistic talents and skills for a couple of years.  He decided that a career wasn’t worth working to create tools of doom and gloom.

Akuna is, however a master marksman and inventor of a dynamic gun accessory that catches brass as its expelled from a pistol, the Akuna Brass Catcher (video below - please allow blocked content from Google Video to view).

While learning How To Compute Akuna saw a way to take his art to folks who can benefit from the insights and entertainment.  In addition to computers for art and music, he’s also creating Microsft Office PowerPoint slide shows and enjoying Microsoft Flight Simulator.  He's making his work available as wearable art.

Akuna's art is featured in the dynamic Black History book Black People And Their Place In World History by Dr. Leroy Vaughn, DePalma, Free Energy and the N-Machine by Bruce DePalma, and served as artistic director of Prelude To Intimacy by Ira Einhorn.  He also served as Music Director to the Million Marijuana March in L.A. for many years.

The following are visual examples of Akuna’s work.  After decades of creating inspiring art, music and good works, maybe the world is finally ready for his art.  Lord knows this struggling artist could use a break.

An edition of Akuna’s World Peace Now logo was used in Bethlehem to Jerusalem Interfaith Peace Prayer Pilgrimage Reconciling the Three Faiths of Jerusalem in Peace, December 25, 2005.  His art is featured at Artbuyersbiz.com.  His most recent music is on Africa Before The Invasion with Najite.
